Random Tid-bits
Thanksgiving week was a [relatively] busy one for me, with a lot of time spent at work appeasing the hungry shoppers. We did insanely well Friday, Saturday and Sunday despite the current economic slump – being fiscally conservative just isn’t possible during the holidays.
I was supposed to be off work yesterday, and was really looking forward to some personal time, but the store was under-staffed and I’m a nice guy. I did get in a little bike ride in the morning though, which was a nice addition. I was able to help an incredibly flustered blind man as he was walking down the middle of the I-35 access road, directly into oncoming traffic. The cars would slow down enough, honk their horns, or stop to not hit him, but not a single person stepped out of their vehicle to help this man to the side of the road. It was absolutely disgusting and disturbing. I pondered about how sick our country is for a while as I rolled down the road, and then continued on.
I bought some new shoes yesterday, some low-cut Keen Targhee’s for $16.00. I really, really didn’t need another pair of shoes, but I really couldn’t pass up the deal. I guess I did kind of sort of have a hole in my shoe line-up; my old waterproof hiking shoes were a hair too small. I still want a pair of full leather hiking boots – like these from Asolo, but that purchase will probably wait a little while.
I met a girl yesterday at work, as she was picking up some bike stuff and a roof rack for her car. Super cute, great smile, friendly, road cyclist – and now I’m really disappointed with myself I didn’t express interest when she gave me a chance. She’ll be back in a few days, so maybe, if everything aligns properly, I’ll get a second chance.
My accuracy might be off, but I’m pretty sure I’ve had my current beard for almost a month now. It’s really coming to life, and I’ve even collected a few compliments on my scruff. People have always told me I look good and fierce with a beard, but I never paid too much attention. There’s something about this current incarnation that I like though, enough that it’ll probably stick though winter.
And that’s about the extent of my random tid-bits for today. I need to finish up a job application now, as well as my cup of coffee. Three in a row, amongst my facebook friends’ statuses this morning:
- Friend A is getting refocused here at work.
- Friend B is very late for work.
- Friend C hasn’t been at work this early for a while.
Me? Daniel is not going to work this morning, and it feels great.
