Communications Coordinator; United States Business Council for Sustainable Development; 2010 – Present

Working immediately under the organization’s Executive Director, Daniel designed and implemented an aggressive communications strategy for the US BCSD, creating, editing or otherwise channeling all public facing communications. Leveraging his design experience and tech-savvy background, he managed the creation of a new organization website and a complete branding overhaul. In addition to his communications work, he took responsibility for scheduling, event planning and management, and monthly accounting tasks – the typical non-profit environment, doing more with minimal resources.

Sales Associate; Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI); 2008 – Present

Through his work at REI, Daniel educates, inspires and outfits REI coop members and customers, providing the necessary building blocks to safely and enjoyably experience the outdoor environment. Using his expert experience in climbing and competitive cycling, he spends his time at REI assisting customers in a one-on-one setting, sharing his passions and practicing ever-important communication skills.

Legislative Aide; Texas State Senate; 2008 – 2008

Daniel spent five months in the Texas State Senate, providing administrative and logistical support for the 80th Texas Legislature. His duties included operational assistance in Senate committee hearings, various forms of administrative work in Senators’ offices, as well as assisting the Texas Sergeant at Arms.

Executive Director; Texas 4000 for Cancer; 2006 – 2007

Still his most memorable accomplishment, Daniel charismatically led and had oversight over all logistical operations in planning and executing a safe and successful 4,500-mile charity bike ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. He designed and implemented all fundraising operations, raising over $250,000 from individual and corporate donations in 2007, going directly to cancer research. Furthermore, he supervised the nonprofit’s marketing and outreach efforts, creating a strong connection with the University of Texas, developing a new organization website for more efficient content display and communication, and expanding sustainable relationships in the Central Texas area.

Education

University of Texas at Austin; Bachelor of Arts; 2004-2008

Daniel’s primary concentration was Cultural Anthropology, with secondary studies in Rhetoric and Portuguese Language. His key focuses included: an exploration into inequalities founded on ideas of race, gender, and sexuality; and the development and study of effective written and verbal communication, specifically in the nonprofit environment.

Skills

Daniel has a high level of proficiency in written communication, with writing published on the University of Texas homepage, experience in grant writing and research, web-based content and SEO.  (Samples available here.)

He’s technologically savvy utilizing: the Microsoft Office Suite; Linux, Macintosh, and Microsoft operating systems; desktop publishing and design; image manipulation with Adobe and open source alternatives; and Dreamweaver and HTML.

He’s also an adventure enthusiast with extensive experience in backcountry backpacking and land navigation, rock climbing, and road cycling.
